Natural materials
Materials

At Savoir we use the very best natural materials because we think they give the very best results. Natural materials, such as horsetail, wool and cotton breathe well and make and excellent mattress filling where as foams, latex and memory foams tend to breathe less well, so can be sweaty, and also deteriorate over time.

Research by Woolmark has shown that we sleep better on animal fibers such as wool and horse hair as they are much better a maintaining the right body temperature than any man made filling, and improve the amount of REM sleep.  The majority of mattresses also use springs.  The very best mattresses use individually pocketed springs, which are able to follow the body’s contours effectively.

Horse Hair

Savoir uses only the finest long tail horsehair. The horsehair arrives in rope form and is then carded at the factory. The carding process combs the horsehair and separates out the long hairs from the short.  We only use the long hairs in our bases and mattresses as they are the most effective of natural springs.  The carding process also gives the hair additional bounce.

Wool & Cotton

Wool provides the cushioning in the mattress so typically we use a lot of it. At Savoir we use two grades depending on the model; either lambs wool or for the most sumptuous sleep experience we use cashmere wool. Wool has many advantages over man made products but perhaps the most important is that it allows the mattress to "breathe" by wicking away moisture and therefore helps the sleeper maintain an optimal, even temperature though out their sleep.

Wood

Wood plays an important role in the construction of the bases and headboards. By selecting the right high quality timber and using properly constructed joints with ensure a long life for our beds. All our frames are constructed to give over 25 years of support. At Savoir we only use FSC high grade knot free pine, beech and, in the case of drawers, oak.
