Savoir Los Angeles: A New Home in West Hollywood

Savoir has arrived in Los Angeles. This October, we opened the doors to our new showroom at 8551 Melrose Avenue, bringing our handmade beds and British bedmaking tradition to the heart of West Hollywood’s Design District.

Designed by Hannah Carter Owers of Carter Owers Studio, the 940-square-foot space continues our collaboration in Mayfair and, most recently, at 200 Lexington in New York. For Los Angeles, the studio has created something that feels distinctly Californian while remaining rooted in Savoir’s approach to craftsmanship and natural materials. consider exactly that through shared perspectives and a different way of thinking about the spaces we create around ourselves.

A Space Shaped by California

The design takes its cue from the idea of sleep as a form of rewilding. Natural light, sand and pale umber tones, refinished concrete floors and custom beech millwork create a softer setting for the beds, reflecting California’s connection to nature and indoor-outdoor living.

The Beds

At the centre of the showroom is a curated collection of six Savoir beds, bringing together iconic designs, reimagined styles and new pieces created with Los Angeles in mind.

Nº1 - The One

The culmination of over a century of bed-making expertise, requiring at least 120 hours of handcrafting, the Nº1 is the ultimate in luxury.

120+ hours of craftsmanship

Nº2 - The Icon

Commissioned for the Savoy hotel in 1905, the Nº2 is a masterclass in craftsmanship, comfort and style, taking over 80 hours to handcraft.

Bespoke

Exquisitely detailed with a modern valance.

The Nº1

The Savoir Nº1 is showcased with a simple Harlech headboard in our white Trellis ticking. Presented with our cashmere and horse-tail hair (HCa) topper, our deepest mattress and a cane-edge base, the Nº1 draws on more than a century of bedmaking expertise.

The Nº2

Shown as a ‘naked’ bed in Savoir’s iconic Trellis ticking, with the Lenoir frame headboard, the Nº2 allows clients to experience comfort first and visualise how their own design might come together.

It features a Nº2 mattress, base and horse-tail and cashmere (HCa) topper, proudly showcasing the bed for which Savoir is most famous.

The Pamela

Created by internationally acclaimed designer Nicole Fuller, the Pamela was designed for the Los Angeles showroom, with fabric and styling chosen for a light, relaxed look and feel.

Upholstered in De Le Cuona Heritage in Pearl, woven from wool and cotton yarns, its exquisitely detailed paisley pattern offers a subtle, contemporary twist on a classic motif. The bed is finished with a contemporary valance featuring hidden pleats and a matching bolster, and is paired with a Savoir Nº2 bedset and HW topper.

The Winston

A Savoir classic, the Winston takes inspiration from the Barcelona chair, the modernist icon designed by Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich in 1929. Savoir’s original headboard design has been refined with a lower profile, giving it a more contemporary appearance.

Featuring 27 individually stitched leather panels, the structured headboard balances form and function. Upholstered in Holly Hunt’s Nordic in Cognac, the nubuck leather has a napped, true-suede aesthetic, lending the bed a softer look suited to the bedroom. The Winston is paired with a Savoir Nº3 bedset and HC topper, and finished with bright silver metal legs.

The Melrose

A new addition to the Savoir range, The Melrose is being shown for the first time. With a nod to mid-century design, its low, wide headboard and deep fluting create an inviting presence without dominating the space.

It is upholstered in Dedar Karakorum TI7011 Col. 001 Ivory, a richly textured bouclé that intertwines wool and viscose in an uneven pattern of loops and curls. Inspired by the texture of precious Astrakhan fur, the fabric has a soft, chunky hand-feel. The Melrose is paired with a Nº3 bed set and HW topper.

Teddy

Our new Teddy design draws inspiration from recent projects with leading interior designers. With curves at every angle, it has a soft, teddy-bear-like character, from the accentuated curved ears of the headboard to the curved corners of the base.

Upholstered in Osborne & Little Caraballo F8043-01, a short-pile mohair velvet in a rich caramel tone, the fabric enhances the bed’s soft and sumptuous appearance. Teddy is paired with a Savoir Nº5 bed set and CW topper.

Craft and Detail

Throughout the showroom, details draw the outside world in. Large-scale photography created with Los Angeles-based Natural Curiosities brings together images of nature with scenes from our London workshop, connecting the new space with the place where every Savoir bed begins.

Horsehair, one of the natural materials used inside our mattresses, makes another appearance in a coiled artwork and in the wall lights by Apparatus. Above, a custom Cox London Spring Oak Tree chandelier adds a further reference to the natural world. Pieces by Scottish cabinetmaker Faolchú, including a reclaimed elm and brass consultation table, complete the space.

Each bed sits behind discreet retractable curtains, giving clients the privacy to take their time, lie down and experience the difference for themselves, with guidance from our Savoir experts.

A Story That Began at The Savoy

While the surroundings may be new, the way we make our beds remains unchanged. Savoir has been rooted in traditional bedmaking since 1905, when our story began at The Savoy in London. Today, every bed is still made by hand in the United Kingdom, using carefully chosen natural materials and time-honoured techniques.

The Los Angeles showroom marks another chapter in that story, and an opportunity to work more closely with clients, interior designers and architects across the West Coast.
